ivan perusse: Since the metal casing of the TF201 block the signals, I figured putting
the metal strips outside the cas...not much improvement...
Mark Ritz: i didn't work but thanks anyway for you time doing the video
Johnny Phung: Both sides of the tape is made of copper. So the metal copper is touching
both the existing external antenna and the connection. Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: Point well taken. I will try that next. Thanks for watching!
jooles88: Cool work Johnny - Think Im lucky had the .14 system update today in UK GPS
was 13 sats in less than 2 mins wireless is cool as well just U tube and
flash bit unstable. - Keep up the good work.
AllesDriss: you've made a nice short circuit 4 all three Antennas!!! Now they are have
contact with the metal back of the display - and with one another ;o))
Johnny Phung: @necten Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: I tried it with tape on the outside but did not see any better results.
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: Hey thanks for the question and comment. I put a link to the item I bought
on Amazon. Thanks for watching!
TekReview's: They changed the back plate with a blue PLASTIC one to improve Wifi and
GPS! Asus also gives out FREE DONGLES to fix the problems, but you cant use
it with the keyboard dock. The TF300 model has a PLASTIC back, the TF701
model has metal with plastic where the antennas are. They should have
swapped out the backs with plastic in the first place!!!
DavidNguyenn: Hey man great idea. Did this improve the wifi range or wifi in general? I'm
thinking about doing this exact samething but wanna double check before i
open my tablet!!
trey9386: If you spend $450+ on a product, mainly a tablet and have to do this, you
really got jipped for your money.
Marius Oancea: @johnnythegeek1 thanks for the video but do you know how can i solve the
problem that i have with my tf201-the glass is loosing on the edges??
Johnny Phung: Nice.
ivan perusse: since the metal casing is the problem to GPS reception, maybe having the
tape hanging outside, sticked to the back of the tablet? I have to open
mine for a major bug (tablet stuck on a boot loop, but maybe I have a
broken connection (it had received some back shocks) Anyway, thanks for the
opening instruction. Since it is useless has it is now, I will open it up
to have a glance.
Johnny Phung: I agree. Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: They are going to offer a dongle to replace the GPS. It's kind of like and
external GPS you can plug into it. I hope it's free. thanks for watching!
Nick-MC: "thanks for watching"....'the video is not done yet.Keep watching please' -
C4RB1N3: Meh, who needs those silly warranties anyway.
Sahil Chauhan: Where is the results video?
Johnny Phung: Yes it did increase the wifi reception. I was surprised and pleased.
germboy007: in my head hes a white guy until i see the reflection
Johnny Phung: Could be a loose connection.
jordivibe: Yes, Johny, great to see inside TF Prime. For those that want to avoid
mutilating their tablet, you can try this video: Asus Eee Pad Transformer
Prime WiFi and GPS Fix From Lisa Gade
TekReview's: Try using a credit card or a really thin putty knife, from Ace Hardware,
about a 5 inch one, very thin on the edge. Using plastic tools also is
better. I use the putty knife to unsnap the Mac Mini to swap out the
processor and ram on older 2006 models which only came with a Core Duo, it
needs a Core 2 Duo in order to use 4gb+ of memory with OS X Tiger and above.
Bear Drew: I have a scratch (a long one) on my asus transformer prime...is it
exepensive to get a new glass and is it hard to replace or should i get a
pro (Asus to do it?) how much with labor does it cost usually? any advice
would be great...
Johnny Phung: @skilby73 Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: Thanks for the tip!
Frappy Daleks: god, any bent metal or warped glass on the bezel would drive me insane! i
cant believe anyone would do this to such a beautiful device!
Johnny Phung: There still is contact on the side with no adhesive. That side is touching
the metal plate and that metal plate is the actual antenna. Thanks for the
tip and watching!
Johnny Phung: I did notice improvement in wifi but not GPS. I have another video showing
some results of this mod. I think the GPS sucks because the updates turned
it off. Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: I got the tape from amazon and the tools from ifixit. Thanks for watching!
Bryan Hinkle: Can you give more details on the copper tape you used? You mentioned you
got it on Amazon but is it 1/4" or 1/2" wide? Copper foil tape? Any details
would be appreciated.
Geoff Foster: Wouldn't recommend this, antennas need to be a very specific length to
correspond with the wavelength they are tuned for. This is especially for
high frequency stuff like 2.4ghz/5ghz/900mhz which require even more
precise measurements. You're probably doing more harm than good by just
arbitrarily cutting a strip of conductive tape. You'd be better off trying
to clean the connectors or perhaps add a tiny bit of conductive paste to
create a better connection.
Johnny Phung: I would try using a heat gun or hair dryer to melt the glue a little bit
and to make the parts a little softer to squeeze into place. Do this at
your own risk because I am not an engineer.
King Wajid: it was like watching a scary movie and now we wait for the next part...
Johnny Phung: Thanks for watching!
Jordan Koehn: will this void the warranty lol?
Diego Daniel Santiago: Hi! I have a problem with the screen. When I raise the Tablet, toch screen
goes crazy, as touching the screen anywhere. Do you have any idea why this
problem occurs? thanks greetings!
Johnny Phung: @Ruckzuck78 It is working better than before but not sure if it is still
usuable or as good as the xoom I was testing it against. I still need to
run the same tests as before so I have to set that all up again in the same
places. It will take me about a week because I need to test this at the
school I work at. Stay tuned!!! Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I agree the sound could be better. I
used a mono lapel into the camera and camera audio capture is never so
great. It is really difficult when recording to watch the screen and watch
what it is that I am trying to do. All at the same time trying to explain
what I am trying to do. It is also really difficult to manual focus and try
to do what I do. Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: I just put the link in the description. Thanks for watching!
alezatf: if i buy an asus prime right now will it have that same problem with the
wifi and the gps??? im asking cause its actually a major flaw for me
Johnny Phung: LOL yeah it's a force of habit that I end the video with "thanks for
watching" so when I ended the introduction to what I wanted to do, I did
not realized, that I am also going to show the process of taking the Prime
apart. Thanks for watching!
Максим Радченко: @Mealsul хотелось бы проверить!!! где такой скоч взять не кто не знает???
TheSiban: a pioneer!
Johnny Phung: @SavannahTL That laptop does see improvements when there is a low signal,
apps that needs the internet loads the content faster and does not crash.
Thanks for watching!
Johnny Phung: I did not replace it. I just tried to add a bigger antenna to increase the
reception. It did not work but I think it was because an update from ASUS
turned off the GPS all together. Epic Fail :/
