wagslick: Yup. I'm no mechanic. Try it at your own risk. My car was running when I
did the work.
Young Papa: How to Fix Theft Passlock System on GM Cars - Chevy Malibu
Justin Webb: That happened to my mom on hers and she got charged 2000 dollars for a new
computer this is way cheaper
Rajagopal Appavu: My question: My Chevy Malibu Randomly stalls, Because of theft pass lock
system? please let me know. Thanks
jessica daniels: You're a rock star man! This happens to our 2003 Malibu a lot! The thing
is, it used to work , putting the key in accessory for 10 minutes. It would
start. NOW, it takes 3, 4 times before it will start! That's 40 minutes
being stranded somewhere ! Plus the dummy light (anti theft system) doesn't
blink in accessory anymore. The light now stays on, not blinking. Any idea?
If you could help, I would greatly appreciate it! Have a beautiful weekend!
tripletsontherun: Wagslick are you still out there? I am terrified to touch wires while my
car is running. So just to confirm. I leave the battery attached. Actually
start the car (not just to the on position right), then take off the frame
and move around inside to cut the wire and install the switch. I am fearful
of electricity and couldn't hear your car running in the video so I wanted
to make sure I got it all right before my kids find me torched in the

matt w: I just detach the battery and reconnect it. The system will reset and I
usually won't have an issue again for 6 months to a year. I then just do
the same thing again. Chevy usually make good vehicles but they really
screwed up with these security systems. I'm sure they've learned from it.

Nala James: i just did my grand am yesterday...it was sitting for 2 days...cause of
this stupid issue....I did mine a little different from yours, I used a
resistor instead...had in started in 1/2 hr.....its disable for life.....
Ob Fuscated: There are multiple causes of Passlock problems.
The resistor trick bypasses problems related to the key/lock.
The modules such as Baker Electronix spoof the signal to the PCM from the
BCM, which is cheaper by far than a BCM or fighting with a difficult system.
Passlock is commonly disabled with a tune in the PCM.
Resistor is cheaper than module is cheaper than a tune.

you can start the car through the radio you have to press and hold the #3
and #5 then press the brake padal down all the way then press the power
button on the radio and press the button on the shifter that starts the car
in case its an emergency and you have to press and hold the #3 and #5 and
Power and the button on the shifter all at the same time while pressing the
Besides your HORRIBLE spelling and second grade grammar skills, your
pointless comment (like in the other threads you have replied to) shows

THINK before you respond to a technical thread this way you can avoid
looking like a dope. Cheers.
Great video Wag, thanks.
peady knight: i brought 02 impala i thank this is tha problem
blackroses: My 01 grand am has same prob . Get rid of it . never is fixed.
Kent Peterson: I have a 2005 that dose this. Last time it did this the 10 minute thing did
not work. I had my neighbor replace the switch. Bad thing about the anti
lock what if there where hoodlum after me and I started the car only to get
lock. I wont have 10 minutes. doubt i'd have 10 seconds for them to break
into my car and kill me.
Glenn Hunter: Can i put a touch screen raideo in the 2003 chevy malibu and how many
inches is the raideo
wakawu: So this isn't really a 'fix' this is just a get around to it.. you would
have to bypass the sensor or resistor in the ignition cylinder (passlock)
and do the relearn procedure. The way it shows in this video will cause the
security light to come on

Joshua Starcher: I have an 98' model of the same vehicle. . I feel sometimes insecure
leaving it outside (this is just sometimes.) Alone and someone braking in
and stealing it. Please figure out what your doing man.
newton3010: Update....I took a look at the ignition and it looked like someone had done
this to my car before. the yellow wire was already spliced and had a larger
wire connected as opposed to a switch...i removed the wire and tried to
start the car it cranked but would not stay started...replacing the wire
and trying again. same issue..... connecting/disconnecting this wire had no
effect on my car...........still researching....
brian o'conner: Will this work on a 97
MICHAEL ALLEN: Hi,Cool video ..Does the toggle switch have to be any certain
resistance? What can you tell me about ...If The car wont start...? Thanks
Kelly Gish: See what I mean... These malibu are junk
newton3010: Been researching this due to having issues with my 2001 Malibu. Just
thought I'd offer what I have learned as well as get some info. First it
was intermittently not starting, no crank nothing...i do the wait for light
to go out method as shown in another video and it would work. but recently
it changed to now it will crank, but shuts off shortly after starting, wont
stay started. there are two sides to this system, but the video doesn't
specify what this solution is for. What I have been able to find is that
for no crank at all , use the wait for light method. (turn to on, wait for
AT light to go out. turn off wait 30 seconds, start car) this is the result
of either battery or electrical system prob. The car thinks the battery was
For start but not stay started. This is an issue with the key not being
recognized properly. On mine i believe its due to a bad ignition or key
(its very worn). For this you use this method outlined in the video but you
need to make sure the first phase of the security system is passed by doing
the wait method. he starts the car to pass phase one. this i believe can be
done when you have the car starts but not stay started problem...not the no
crank issue...i will be doing this tomorrow as i have the start but not
stay started/ignition/key issue to see if it helps. i will post update on
Miracle Bond: Thanks Wag.. appreciate all your help. God Bless
wagslick: Glad to hear it.
loomieD91: i hate the gm theft system i have probelms with my 2001 malibu occasionally
wagslick: Yes but then your theft light will always be on. Wrecks your resale.
SteelCity1981: irony is it's an anti theft system that won't even allow the owner to start
their own car. lol
mikqqqq1: what if you are unable to start the car because of the security ?
patricknedz: I agree on that. I have a 2004 Saturn Ion which does the same thing. Saturn
was also owned by GM. They said they didnt find anything wrong with the car
and cant figure out why it does that. I figured out it was the passlock
from doing research. I just wish GM would run their business a little
better and recall these cars that had been known for this passlock problem.
BobbyvilleMan: Thanks for the tip! I just had the exact same problem, figured I might have
to call a mechanic to fix it, maybe even tow it to a garage. Luckily I
noticed the theft light was flashing and figured that might have something
to do with it. Left the key in the accessory position for almost exactly 10
min and the light stopped and I was able to start the car. I haven't tried
the long term fix, but this is the first time this has happened so
hopefully it won't start happening too often now.
David Lenon: This was an awesome trick. thanks for saving me some cash.
seyibam: Here's a update. I had the same issue that the video says. Yesterday, I
followed the video exactly to install a toggle sw in between both ends of
the cut yellow wire. Thereafter , I could see the security light (theft
system) on and off when I switched the toggle back and forth. The important
thing here is that when I toggle sw to the way to open the yellow wire, I
would not be able to start my car. It works way as before after I toggled
back to make the wire connect.

2000 Grand Am SE I've had the car about 3 months and this is the 3rd time
the car is on lockdown. Any ideas on how to fix this without car running?
wagslick: You can. Shouldn't be a problem. Just know that your theft system light
will always be on.

words. then u attach the switch to both ends of the yellow wire you just

MrCatnoodles: your amp is taking your power
Paradigmdubstep: do you have to install one of these if your going to be putting a
aftermarket stereo system in?
Dead2RiseMusic: you guys know anything about the service light when you change the deck?...
i changed my deck and everyhint was fine i got the wiring piece i needed
and it all worked out great. i then went to add a amp to my car and the
service light came on and all the dash lights stopped working... any ideas?
William LeSure: Thank you for the video. Gm has used this in Grand Am/ Alero / Impala. This
think is will work for years 1999-2006. But I'm not sure. Maybe you can
help me with this. Because I'm have the same problem with a 2001 Grand Am
SE I just replaced the Ign Switch/ with the chip in it. It was 160.00 I did
it in 15 mins. And the security light is still on. Will this video work on
my car. I'm thinking it will. Can you help?
raveguy821: So would I be able to cut the wire and then add the toggle switch later on?
wagslick: Thanks William....
