1aauto: Try to spray a little WD-40 into the keylock hole on the door. Slide the key in and out a few times and wiggle it up and down to see if that frees it up for you. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
1stbluSS: 99 Explorer - Had the issue where the driver door lock wouldnt pop up all the way. I couldnt turn the key on the outside to get it up either. The only way to get it up was to jog it up using the interior handle. Then I snapped off the interior handle. So I replaced the actuator, and the interior handle and the issue was resolved, but the exterior handle was still loose. Now the issue is back. Should I Replace all ext/int/actuator/clips? Actuator is new maybe burned out jogging up the lock?
NKS969: You saved me a boat load of moolaa! I took my '01 5.0, Mntnr to some clowns on Rt 35 near where I live and the two front handles broke AGAIN within two months. I bought two more online, thinking it's just my house apes being rough on them and took the Mntnr back for a second go around. AGAIN they broke with in 2 mos! Turns out, after watchin' your vid AND replacing the hook actuator rod from the handle interior down to the clip, I installed them properly! Those IDIOTS! They had them backwards!!!
J Hunt: Thanks for the video. You save me from paying some guy $150 to do this for me. I did it myself in about 45 minutes.
1aauto: We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this repair. If you remove the interior door panel off of the tailgate, you should be able to look inside and see what may have broke. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Wil' Washington: I have a 2001 Ford Explorer XLT. My tailgate door handle snapped internally but the handle is still attached. Was told it is some plastic piece that needs to be replaced. Do you guys have a video detailing that that would be useful to me? Thanks!!
1aauto: Unfortunately we do not have access to this vehicle to do videos on it. If we ever get a chance to work on one again, we will be most likely making a video on this.
p fe: Hello Sir,
I have a 01 explorer sport. I'm getting a new driver's side door latch. Do you have a video replacing that? Thank You.
1aauto: It may be a similar set-up. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
beta0blaster: I have a 1996, will this method still work? I've opened up the door before and everything looks pretty similar from what I remember.
James Ficarro: THANK YOU! I spent an hour trying to put the door handle on, but I didn't take the window track off, it was extremely frustrating.. Then I found your video, very helpful, thanks
Dory Hayes: On the rear doors (2000 4d) you don't remove the track you'll just have to work around it. I ended up taking a rather long flat tip through the door panel fastener hole to pop the clip which was the hardest part. Everything else is the same. Thanks for the video, aside from me doing a rear door it was a great help. I was done in about an hour.
1aauto: Unfortunately the issue is probably the regulator itself is bent. The only way to fix the problem would be to replace it with a new one.
illicitdolphin: I have a problem with my door handle breaking. I have bought 2 doors handles in the past month and it seems they are breaking because of the window regulator. When I installed the second one I realized it. The bulky part of the handle that holds the latch bar on the inside gets caught behind the top bar of the window regulator. Seems as though the window regulator should be somehow adjusted further out so that the handle won't get stuck and break. Is this possible? Manufacturer defect maybe?
1aauto: HI Jorge, you would need to rivet them back in or buy some bolts to bolt them back into place from your local hardware store.
Jorge Torres: i have a question does the door handles come with the nuts and bolts already when you purchase them??
1aauto: If you look at the clip it may just attach to the rod, some times they just clip on.
Gail Thomas: Where does the rod (on the lock) hook on the yellow piece that holds the handle rod?
NANCY GLYNN: We finally got the handle on, had trouble removing the rivets very quickly....anyway, I guess we used the door broken too long and now the rod might be damaged and not working properly. Door won't open for us but we haven't given up yet. Gonna check your parts for a new rod.
Connor Case: this happened to all 4 doors... is it something cheap to replace
1aauto: You may need to remove the door panel and pull the door rod inside of the door to pop it open for you.
nick ol: this is exactly what i need to fix mine. both my handles are broken, inside and out. on both driver and passenger doors. and they broke with the door closed. any way to get them opened?
diplomatsking: Thank you! This was very detailed and helped completely...took me two days because my previous window repair wasnt correct but I got it! I will recommend you guys!

1aauto: You may be able to pop in off of the rod with a flat head screw driver.
HTC815: I have a 2001 Explorer and I got to the yellow clip its reversed and can't seem to take it out.. HELLLLP
HTC815: Bought my handle from the site and installed it just like you guys said! THANK YOU!!!!
1aauto: It sounds like the rods may have fallen off of the outer door handle, or the handle may have broke inside if the door.
1aauto: Thanks for checking us out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
tylergabby2: Thank you for this video! I thought I was going to have to pay a lot of money to have this done. I have a 99 explorer that three of the door handles broke and I was able to replace them myself
1aauto: We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to make this particular repair. We'll keep this in mind during any future repairs that we may make.
Shannon Mosher: This is great - but do you have any tips for the rear door handle - it is different. The clip holding the rod is basically inaccessible. Any tips?
1aauto: The Mustang might be different, we currently do not have an auto repair video for that particular repair. Here's a video that will show you how to remove the door panel so that you can service it. youtube.com/watch?v=dvNk5ZncW_8&feature=plcp
1aauto: This video shows you how to replace the outside door handle on a 98-04 Ford Explorer. if you need to replace the inner door handle on your Ford Explorer, here's an auto repair video that will show you how to do that. youtube.com/watch?v=l7CkwILS8b8&feature=plcp
Rory Bertram: Wanted to give a huge thank you for a great video. Any advice on how to replace a handle if the door won't open?
thefaketahare: thanks this video helped alot, I was able to replace the drivers door handle on my mercury mountaineer. use 1/4-20 x 1/2 bolts for the handle.
Cristian Sanabria: Those this Concept work on a mustang 2000?
1aauto: Thank you for watching our auto repair video on YouTube. Have a great day.
Nickolas Swanson: You saved me so much time with this video. The rivets were the worst since I had no drill nor a chisel but I still got them. Thank you!
Martin Villa: Thank you for showing me how to do it.......time to tackle the door handle.
calibersclips: Thanx so much! I could get rid of the rivets but the little yellow plastic clip nearly drove me mad, until i found your Video! Ford Explorer has a lot of Fans here in Germany too. Best regards!
1aauto: They don't come with bolts. You can either attach them with rivets like the factory had done, or you could get a couple of small bolts from your local hardware store.
heuster: I ordered the door handle for my 97 Mountaineer, no bolts. Any chance that someone should have stuck bolts in there and didn't?
