Did this video help you?

Mark Daniels: Well, I completed the job- heat is good and temp is good. But my car idles really high 3000 rpm's. dang!!!!!!! Any idea? I

street35z: What is the estimated cost that most garages would charge for doing the job you did on the motor? I have a 1999 Pontiac montana that has coolant leak beside the timing cover and wondering if it could be just the timing cover gasket since there is no water in the oil or at least yet.

Joshua Mackall: I'm not having no issues with the system bubbling in the overflow tank. It's just running hot and it has this hissing sound. This mechanic told me if it was the head gasket they will have to machine down the heads. I don't think anything wrapped. When you start it it runs like a champ.

Brian Drumm: Did you have to adjust for valve lash or is it really as simple as installing the pushrods back on the lifter, slide the rocker back on and torque away?

Mark Daniels: And getting that passenger side mount- not fun. Yes, my book says 168 in-1bs for rocket arms on a 2001 Monte Carlo . Still go to 50?

Mark Daniels: Why did you not change the head gasket too? I am at the point now where I may go ahead and just change it. Although removing the rear and front exhaust and exhaust crossover may not be fun.

Joshua Mackall: Thanks a lot

Charles Keilman: How did you remove that water pipe connector the top part nearest to the driver? I cant figure it out lol

Scott Martinez: Great Video ! I myself have a 2005 impala with this 3.4 engine, I'm a car guy so I I'm constantly maintaining my car oil changes every 3,000 miles and I use the top of line oil Mobil 1 Synthetic High Milage. Now can a bad Intake Manifold Gasket cause oil to seep out? Because I have a burning oil smell and some smoking every now and then. I checked the gaskets they all seemed ok. So I'm having a hard time pin pointing we're the oil is seeping out from, from what it looks like, the smoke comes from the back of the engine like right under the alternator.

mach1sph: well nice vid. it let me know that I'm not messin with it. But hey GO HORSE. Colts love

marquis pompey: great vid, have family friend thats getting ready to do same work on my vehicle and check the rocker and lifters? not sure what those are but he says he needs a manual or book to check some things . torque maybe dont know. but do u know where to get instruction manuals and could u tell me what rocker and lifters are?

juan rojas: whats the difference between in lbs and ft lbs. the book says tighten rocker arms to 168 in lbs. I did the conversion and it came out to almost 14 ft lbs. You mentioned tighten them to 50. which is right? its quite a big difference. same engine 3400.

Aaron Ennis: We recently replaced the intake gaskets on our 3400 and tried to start it. It wouldn't start we went back in and found the push rods were in the wrong place. We put them in the proper place turned it over manually from the harmonic balancer and heard a slight clank then tried to start it again and it still would not start. I was wondering if the push-rods being in the wrong spot would have something to do with it not starting now or what. We also didn't disconnect the battery as yo did. We're at a loss. Hope the valves didn't get messed up when we started it up the first couple times. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

GMCsarge: Apparently nobody makes a service manual for this car. No chilton or haynes available, so where does one find the proper torque specs for this engine ?

Joshua Mackall: Thanks a lot

Mark Daniels: Juan, I made the same conversion. 14, not 50. So, what you do?

Scott Schroetter: dont you know any of the time saving procedures

jetmann33: I am doing the 2002 alero with the same engine. Got everything put back together and now there is a loud knock. Pushrods were put back right so I am thinking one of the lifters went bad, Any opinions?

WWBZT1: 3400 Liter

clockerification: I have the same engine. overheating , white smoke from exhaust ,no coolant in oil,no coolant smell from exhaust ,no oil in radiator . lower intake gasket went bad ?

Joshua Mackall: I'm not having no issues with the system bubbling in the overflow tank. It's just running hot and it has this hissing sound. This mechanic told me if it was the head gasket they will have to machine down the heads. I don't think anything wrapped. When you start it it runs like a champ.

Warren Wimmer: I am about to do this job, Thanks for posting. I had just changed my oil, and don't see the need to drain my oil. Thanks again.

beretmp15: On the right side of coil there are 2 connection entries. there was 1 connection by itself coming out of the all wiring that fit on one entry; another one behind it. cant find anything that goes/fits there. is it just an extra entry. thanks

MrSillybeast67: Haha definitely... there was no gunk at all inside my valve covers. I dont know how you got that power steering pump off before taking the fuel rail off(must be houdini)... lol your motor is set far back which prolly made it hard to get to the back valve cover haha nice vid though...

Vacationtime247: You probably should replace the thermostat. I'd recommend drilling one two small holes through it. Will allow air to bleed out. If you tear the EGR gasket, then replace it. Didn't have to replace mine. Don't need new lower intake bolts. I just re used the old ones. Might consider replacing the head gaskets while your in there. I'm replacing mine on a Black Aztek right now. Got the tear down video online. Putting together the reassembly as it goes back in. VT247

Vacationtime247: Torque the rocker arms down to 50 foot pounds. VT247

Jason Anderson: About how long did this take you? (Roughly)

Edward Wunder: Head gaskets dont fail because of Dex-cool. Thats ridiculous. They fail due to the aluminum head against a cast iron block. The chemical reactions and the different temp expansion and contraction between the to is what causes most head gasket failure, NOT THE TYPE OF COOLANT.

Kirkland Charity Jr: Actually thats cheap. I used to see these priced at a minimum $1000.00 TO $1500.00. Take that $800!!!!!

Vacationtime247: If it's cold outside it might be condensation coming out. Hate to say this, but hopefully it's not the head gaskets as they are known to go bad too. Does the exhaust have any funny smell like it being sweet? A sweet smell would indicate burning antifreeze (i.e. head gasket). If it's not coming from the exhaust, it's probably just the chemicals (oil or antifreeze) being burnt off from you doing the intake manifold. My Aztek did the same thing after my fix. Burnt off fumes for a while. VT247

Min Li: a few more things need to be clear before i start this weekend. 1. do I have to replace thermostat? 2. do I have to replace the EGR gasket 3, do I need to use new lower intake manifold bolts thanks.

Vacationtime247: I'd highly recommend doing the head gaskets on it while your in there. They go bad about the same time the intake manifold does. Not fun having to tear into it all over again. Got a video up on doing that fix too. VT247

Vacationtime247: Took me about 7-8 hours. But I was in no hurry. I took everything off and cleaned it out best I could. Sounds like you got lucky with it leaking outside the engine instead of inside. : ) VT247

Black Heart: crap I just saw your post when I already had the whole thing together I tighted without and specific torque and now it doesnt wanna turn on you think it may be the problem do I have open the whole thing again or just the valve covers and adjust it to the proper torque from there

Kirkland Charity Jr: I used to work at a GM service center and I do not care what anyone says. This should be a recall item!!!! This repair should not be happening on any vehicle. It happens because THIS DEXCOOL COOLANT TURNS INTO A GEL After 90000 miles and blocks up the intake. It is ridiculous!!! This should be recall item!!! The bad part is once its done, you never have to do it again!!!

MrSillybeast67: Your power steering pump would of slid out easier without taking out all that stuff, if you woulda just took your fuel rail/injectors off first.... lol maybe next time.

santicastro29: How much further do I have to go thru to replace the head gasket talking like how much time and parts to take out thanks great video by the way

Vacationtime247: I'd recommend that the head gaskets done also. This job I'd allow 1 day @ 6-8 hours for. The head gaskets 2. Take it all apart one day, replace the bolts for the exhaust and crossover, bolt back together the next day. VT247

cavibird2005: I can't even begin to tell you how many corsica's I've fixed intake gaskets on. But I do it the quick, cheap and dirty way. Just a $20 bottle of Kseal and I'm done. It actually works, I put almost 80K miles on one of them after the Kseal, it just got dangerously rusty.

Black Heart: how much do the pushing rods need to be tighted torque/lb or just an idea please respond ASAP Im working on this right now and dont have a clue thank you

John Howington: good job on the fel pro, very good quality.

Vacationtime247: If you are planning on keeping the car for any length of time, have them go ahead and do the head gaskets. It's not that much more work and they will eventually fail because of the Dex-Cool antifreeze. $800 sounds right to do the head gasket AND intake gasket. Check Craigslist in your area, there are mechanics that can do the job at a very reasonable rate. VT247

Brian mitchell: Did you torque the intake screws

Edward Wunder: it's not debatable, Dex-cool has been around for a long time and is pretty much the same thing many imports have used for years.any engine that has aluminum heads mounted to a cast-iron engine block is prone to head gasket failure. Whoever told you it was a kind of cool that you run was sadly mistaken. I have been an ASE certified Master technician for more than 25 years. I'm not pulling this out of my ass. Stop believing it's the coolant. It's just a fact that aluminum expands/contracts more.

Vacationtime247: The power steering pump wasn't that hard. Trying to get a slightly bent EGR tube back on though was a royal pain though. The valve covers came off fairly easy too. More room than what it looks like to get to things in the back. VT247

Vacationtime247: I would of tried that, but this was my wifes car. Caught it in time before major damage was done. VT247

Vacationtime247: Cool, glad it's back together and running good now. VT247

Tony D: I need to have this done on my chevy monte carlo . they want to charge me 800 bucks wit the parts is that about the right price ....?? this video has helped me to understand what its all about. thanks ........

beretmp15: yeah same thing is happening every time i turn it on.(chemicals burning off). And the smoke was coming from exhaust pipe. Welded it and no more smoke. Thank you for your fast responses and tutorial videos. It helped me ALOT with rebuild.

Vacationtime247: Wasn't a fun job, best to use good parts so it's done right the first time. VT247
