kaoxide: How is the video quality after modding? How much latency is there on the
infocushdcanada: Nice job, you should put a 52mm adapter, so you may use 52mm filters. They
can be purchased at world wide web - infocushd - com
sdroidx: thank you that was a great help
StoneBlueAirlines: My cable was based on the Flite test version but should be the same set up.
I was just trying to make sure if i plug it into my system there is not
pass through on the power side. Don't need a gopro going up in smoke.
Danielsan europe: what case do you use for the gopro3? i only know the underwater case but
then you cant use video out
Tim C: Well, just tested mine does :-) You will simply need a usb (5v) power
source with at least 1050mAh or higher (battery capacity). would recommend
1.2A and higher (lipo)
Raptor50aus: If you dont want to hack apart the Gopro 3 AV cable you can buy the mini
USB solder type plug from Ridax in SE for $1.99
snoopw111: Thanks mate, well done :))
Chad Johnson: No, why? That's a bit toyish. I fly an XP2.
Client Videos: Chad...did you pre-order a DJI Phantom?
dtmpowerboss: thats what i thought well thanks for info
Raptor50aus: I did 10 flights over the last 2 days with the Gopro HD 3 Black edition and
no lock ups or any other issues. Just make sure if using the wifi you turn
it off or the battery will drain over night. You will see from my video my
quad was very high and the remote worked great.
UKVIT: My variant of cable more lighter and simle to soldering. But i did make
external power connector for housing box without modification.
Client Videos: Pissing away a $20 cable to save 20 grams is hardly a wise move. Hacking
off the audio cables and shortening the stock video cable would be a whole
lot easier than harvesting a 10 pin USB
SuperBlindpilot: Thanks for this... Thumbs up!
Chad Johnson: Cool, thanks for the info!
startazz: Nope,go look at flitetest video as they use a ten pin micro/mini USB plug
and then use a servo wire and a 100K resistor to connect it all up,theres
works a treat.
Chad Johnson: Hi, is this necessary for the cable to work?? Or is it just to save weight?
I thought I'd just cut off the RCA connectors and soldier into the wires
coming out of my FPV transmitter.
Masayoshi Noguchi: I am Japanese. I was that this movie is consulted. And it modified. Thanks!
Timo Birnschein: Cool Video - thanks! Do you have any idea if the PCB is necessary for FPV
and what the function might be? Because in case it is not necessary, why
not just buy a mini-USB plug and solder it all? Could you try to remove the
rest of the hot glue to get some insight? Thanks in advance!
Jason Anderson: My hack in this video only connects to the video signal and ground pins in
the USB connector. There's no +V pins I'm connecting to so no power in...
The GoPro runs on 5v only so if you go beyond my conversion and connect to
the +5v on the USB then you can charge the camera while in use. Just be
sure to plug the camera into a +5v source - nothing higher or it will smoke!
Erich Bitonio: Jason, can you not power the GoPro3 with the USB as you can with the other
Client Videos: Where can I just buy one of these cables?...id rather not go through all
StoneBlueAirlines: I am just interested to know with the flight test modification or basically
you're conversion on the cable does it allow it to work with a standard
security camera connector that has 12 volts running on it and then plug in
the GoPro even when it wont power it? I feel like I don't see this info
anywhere. I made my own cable. And I normally have a 12 volt line running
to my security camera.
zero00tolerance: Hello Jason could you do a tutorial on how to add a FPV for the DJI phantom
using gopro ? thanks
Jason Anderson: Cable works fine stock, but is heavy and bulky.
Jason Anderson: Right on, glad it helped! Subscribe to my channel to get more updates as I
am always producing new videos!
zero00tolerance: Thanks for the reply... just wondering.. will this configure works for the
Sony digital camera webcam too?
Chad Johnson: Never mind about the ground question. I figured it out and made a video
myself. I even made an annotation to your video within my own. My video is
a less intensive method, but your way is awesome. If you want to see mine
it's called, "How to Hack your GoPro Hero 3 for FPV". Cheers!
always further: top post, thump up! greetings Martin & Daniela
Raptor50aus: Worked excellent thankyou checkout my Gopro 3 Black edition fpv flights
from the weekend Excellent quality
Alexandre Schmidt: Man, you really helped me out! Just did your hack and it works very, very
well! Thank you so much for taking the time to produce and post this video!
Jason Anderson: I recently found that my Hero 3 Black was defective which was causing the
freezing / crashes. The replacement has been great for FPV so far (knock on
MrWhitenoise404: usb power would lower the weight of the gopro from 72 to 49 gramms.. make
that other video! ;D
SuperBlindpilot: Hi Jason. Thanks for the vid, I did your mod ages ago and it works great! I
want to connect 5v power but not sure where to solder it... at 1:35 in your
vid it goes: Audio-Video-blank-blank-blank. Where does 5v vcc go? is it
Jason Anderson: This mod only works with the GoPro Hero 3 cameras where they output video
using the special 10-pin USB cable. Sounds like the Sony cam only does HDMI
which is no good for FPV.
Client Videos: Holy crap...Thats RIGHT...The Hero 3 crashes thus rendering your FPV dead
in the water
TheBEDUIN18: Thank you, man! Can you show me the schematic diagram of using the
soldering point of a casual miniUSB type B socket to be used as a
replacement for GoPro Combo Cable instead of an original one? Where is
every pin of miniUSB2.0 type B socket is used for in this piece of
equipment goes??? GRATEFUL IN ADVANCE!!!
Andriy Lehtarov: Hey! I'm Brandon.I did -10 lbs past one week.Go to hddiet.gs\#IDbv
Jason Anderson: The original GoPro cable has the 100ohm resistor already installed. This
hack take the original cable and makes it lightweight for RC FPV use.
Jason Anderson: Which camera do you have? Pretty sure the Black doesn't work without the
Chad Johnson: Another question, is it necessary to soldier in the dround wire from my FPV
transmitter? I'd like to just clip the RCA plugs off and soldier the video
cable, but there's no ground available without cutting into the sheath in
the GoPro cable. Thanks!
ytpsychedelic: Pardon the ignorance, but why cant people just use WiFi and the GoPro app
(let's pretend it didn't have lag and let's pretend you'd be in FPV on an
iPad or Galaxy Tab-like, no glasses)? From what I see in all videos, the
WiFi is even turned off, so you always have to use a Tx-Rx pair, thingy?
Jason Anderson: Thanks hope it helps!
dtmpowerboss: yes i did i stile have wire but it will only work with resistor
truthseekers666: Can you help me, when doing FPV with hero3, if you are in Timelapse Photo
mode ie taking photos 1 second, 2 second, 5 second etc... does the image
blank on video out when a picture is taken? many thanks.
MrWhitenoise404: awesome! how is the picture quality compared to the original cable and
compared to the hero2 ? can we finaly skip our 640tvl livecams ?
Raptor50aus: The HD 3 at 1080P 60P looks excellent through my goggles. much better than
the HD2 which was still very good the HD3 is so much clearer and the 60FPS
makes it so smooth
simchippy: Great mod! Do you know which pad on the usb PCB is +power. Might as well
add power and charging while were at it. Thx
vkirbys: I have uploaded a video that takes you step by step how to actually
configure the Hero 3 to work with this kind of cable. Search youtube for
"GoPro Hero 3 FPV and Video Out setup using Composite cable" or look for
videos from vkirbys
