davewade81: Awesome, thank you very much....you just saved me so much time and money!!
Fixed and replaced in 5 min.
FordSix LitreLover: You can't use a slide hammer?
Guy Monroe: that was awesome but my 1995 E-150 econoline key switch turns without a key
and battery drains, is replacement going to fix this or is there other
Dwayne Jones: How do you replace when you have lost the key and can't turn the key to the
1A Auto Parts: Thank shouldn't cause a drain on the battery in your truck.
jwmill5: Awesome! Thank you! A dealership actually told me that the lock cylinder
had to be put together and with labor/parts it would be 300.00. Lock Smart
Ignition Key Lock Cylinder from a local auto parts store, already built,
cost me 25.00. With me watching your video on my iphone, I was able to
replace it within 5mins. Thanks again!
CherryHeroin: Didn't really answer that last guy's question...and I have the same
problem. I lost my keys down a sewer drain (don't ask) and its already a
replacement cylinder so I can't just get the dealer to cut me a new key..
How would I get the pin pushed in if I can't turn to the on position.. Am I
screwed into trying to break it or is there a "gentle" way?
Homelesskateboards: Can my battery drain from a bad ignition cylinder
1A Auto Parts: we currently do not have an auto repair video for that particular vehicle.
Anthony Taylor: Hey guys there is a Check Engine Light but I was told its for the DPS
sensor (like an erg sensor) But when I replaced the fender mounted starter
solinoid the light went off and then 3 days later turned back on so I am
sceptical. I did all the connections I just want to know if it is the
ignition switch and how to get to it because I cannot find a video to help
me I dont like to break things I like to do it right the 1st time around
and leave it at that. Thanks for the help.
1A Auto Parts: HI Anthony, You may want to pull the code again (to make sure it isn't a
new one) and runnit in Google, that should help to point you in a direction
as to what the issue may be. Hope this helps you out 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
RANTING WILL: ford explorer replacing a lock cylinder with out the key is it doable? also
is a 97 model
lamania32: I have 98 F150 and 2000 expedition after removing the lower steering column
cover remove the single wire connected to the cylinderlock housing, it has
a black plastic connector firmly pop it out then locate the the steel ball
deep in a hole at the end of the cylinderlock housing while turning the key
push the ball and pull the cylinder. thats all takes about 5-10 min
Shannon Denetsosie: my key was stolen and i was wondering if this would work in the same way
without the key.
1A Auto Parts: HI Anthony, If there happens to be a check engine light on you may want to
pull the code to see what it's pointing to. If not you may want to check
the wires on the starter and also clean up the battery terminals with a
wire brush if you haven't tried this yet. Hope this helps you out.
1A Auto Parts: The Explorer may be different.
1A Auto Parts: check the interior light, pull the bulb to see if the test light goes out,
try the under the hood light, pull that bulb to see if the ligh goes out.
You will kind of have to work you way around the electrical system to see
what's causing the drain on the battery. I have this happen on a Chevy S10
that I own and on my truck the hood light in the engine compartment was
draining the batter, it was on it's own circuit so pulling the fuses didn't
narrow it down for me. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto
Fonzaaay305: @1aauto how would you do a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse gt?
1A Auto Parts: Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel on YouTube. Have a great
day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Homelesskateboards: Can your battery drain from a bad ignition cylinder?
1A Auto Parts: You may be able to have a lock smith take a look at it to see if they can
make a key for you.
Mike Trahan: Great video ..Just replaced mine on my 02 F-250 in under five minutes.
Keith Brown Jr: would this work on the ford explorer models of the same years?
1A Auto Parts: The Explorer ignition may be different. We carry them on our website
Robert Mitchum: Thanks for the quick and easy video. I knew there was a trick to the Ford
ignition lock cylinder, but the '98 is a bit different from my old '79.
Cleaned out 15 years of gunk, and now it works just as well ad it did when
it was new. I had to use a 1/8 inch dia. rod to push up the pin, anything
thicker did not fit in the hole. .... Great vid, short and to the point.
.... Thanks Again.
1A Auto Parts: You would need the key to turn the ignition. A locksmith may be able to
make a new key for you. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
kiss off: hey that was great... except it wasn't real clear. showing a close up of
the spot you push would be helpful. how wide a tool do you need? does the
key need to be in the off or on position?
TheDivebri69: I need to ask a question. My son was using my old '96 F150 and the cylinder
BROKE OFF in the column. The last little bit of the cylinder is still in
the column........ Any suggestions on getting it out? Thanks, divebri69
pdotopb: 96 E150 van REPAIRED! THANKS
Germaine Brady: Would this be the same thing for a 2000 Ford Explorer?
1A Auto Parts: @d12pray You would need to find a way to get it to turn forwards. Sometimes
if you wiggle the key in the ignition you can get it to turn.
Anthony Taylor: @1aauto: My 99 F250 Super Duty 5.4 V8 has a thing with not starting all the
time.It starts sometimes and other times it doesnt. I have replaced the
fender mounted starter solinoid and checked all of the connections and they
are good now. It is still doing this about every 10th time i start it ill
have to go out to the fender mounted solinoid and manualy start it with a
screw driving and it is a pain in my rear. Is the ignition switch to blame
or is it something else?
1A Auto Parts: With electrical issues anything is possible. To test a battery drain remove
the negative cable off of the negative post on the battery (leave the
positive hooked up). connect a test light bettween the negative battery
cable and the negative battery post, if the light lights up with the truck
off there's a draw. Try pulling the fuses one by one to see if the light
goes out, if it does that's the circuit that the draw is coming from. If it
doesn't go out after pulling all of the fuses,cont.....
1A Auto Parts: If you lost the key and need to replace the ignition because of it, a
locksmith may be able to make a new key for you.
1A Auto Parts: I'm not sure how much is in there, but if you can turn it forward to
release it from the column, you should be able to follow this video.
1A Auto Parts: @mephistophiles55 The key should be in the on position, and you just need
something small enough to stick in the hole to push the pin up to release
the ignition cylinder.
