Did this video help you?

Robert Van Den Berg: Hi Do you perhaps have a diagram of your skimmer in your pond? Thanks

rghill100: @ Cory. UV is after all filtration because you want the cleanest water traveling through it as its more effective. Its there to prevent green water.

Thoong Tran: This is a great simple bio filter and very efficient and less to maintain, I have being doing my research for DIY and I think this is the best easy one to build, thanks for the video.

Ray Creighton: Very Nice job. Like the other person do you have a diagram we could use?

Leslie Dyal: I have the system all hooked up and the light on my UV light is not working. I was wondering if there was something I had to have besides plugging it in to a 110 light socket.

Ethan Lim: About how much do you think the whole setup cost? (Just filter). Not including waterfall and skimmer. Where did you get all those bio balls?

Jonathan Anthony: very cool filter set-up!! I want to know do you have the same water in the pond from day 1 or have changed topped up the water or completed changed the water ever if so, how often have done so. please let me know

rghill100: If your speaking of the Tall grass it is "Iris pseudacorus"

saltwatermike1: ponds looks great , was wondering how long do you run your filter for

rghill100: mike it runs 24-7 until fall when water hits about 50 degrees then I shut it down for the season. Otherwise just like saltwater run it non stop.

charlie hagan: How much did it cost?

johnphan76: Thank you so much. If you don't mind can I have a name for the short grass too.nice pond and crystal clear water by the way. Thanks again

Devon Pillay: how long do you run your pump

SmallTownBoyTv: Thank u for the reply. Looking at your set up I'm getting new ideas for next year. Your pond is crystal clear and the fish are very active, your doing something right. Cheers.

rghill100: I used to test all the time before the filters matured a bit. Now that they have and I have the biological up and the Ph swings under control I don't test. If the water is clear fish are happy there Is no point in testing. As far as blowing out the sand gravel filter I do it once a week. It's a 15 min job start to finish. Bio filters I don't do anything to them. They won't be touched till winter when I shut down the pond

Barb C: Nice system. Wish you could post a diagram since I'm a slow learner with plumbing.

civicekhatch9: thank for the info. i just bought 35lb of chicken grit hope that is enough. how many pound do you use ? and can i use leaf blower instead of shop vac ?

Dawrongguy: wow this was nice and clean, do you have instructions on how to build your filter setup?

civicekhatch9: hi can i use pool sand for this s&g filter system. any comment is appreciated

Wayne Meador: Really nice setup Bob! I'm seriously considering building a S/G filter too...nice video, I like it.

Cabinescape1: Bob I looked at the birdman's S/G filter link you posted but still wonder how the sand doesn't settle down into the bigger rocks? I am guessing the air "boils" out the muck and keeps the lighter stuff to the top? is that right? I also noticed that the sand is more like a very fine gravel. where did you get that type of material? I am currently using a bio filtration with lava rocks and is rather difficult to clean. thanks Bob it was a great tutorial.

rghill100: @Rob McCalley Yes rob you always will need some type of bio filtration. stay with koiphen and read read then read more. lol. you will learn everything there. But boi is a must it changes fish waste from harmful chemicals to healthy. nitrites and ammonia to nitrates. bio filters come in 100 different ways too. Look on koiphen. I use the 2 55 gallon drums with 1 with bio balls and bird netting for bio the other is just bird netting.

bfurtado518: Very nice filter setup. Just wondering don't mean to be nosey but altogether what did It cost to build between all the pipes, pumps, hoses and barrels. Ruff est. Would work too. I'm thinking of building this but scaled down for a large aquarium. Thanks ahead of time

SmallTownBoyTv: Hi nice job the filter. I was wondering do u ever test your water to see the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate level and also was wondering how often do u back flush your filter and clean them. Thank u.

Rob McCalley: Thank you so much for the help and the link. I had a lot of questions that have been answered because of the link. I think I am going with this type of filter. I do have one question for you. In the blog birdman says not to have a bio filter after the s/g filter. I see you have yours set up that way. I was wondering if you see any benefit to having the bio filter? I was thinking of setting mine up like yours.

rghill100: Rob I can't take any credit for this filter. Please go to koiphen. It's a koi pond forum I belong to. Look up. Birdman sand and gravel filter. SG filter for short. This forum will show you 100% picture details step by step on how to build.. it's amazing and blows any other filter away with how clean my water stays.. go to my video description on how to build. I put a link there

johnphan76: Hi sir. Can I have the name of those grass bushes in the pond on the right hand side, and where can I get them. thank you

Kmaster Tee: Very nice setup and filter!! love the pond.

saltwatermike1: yeah thats what i run my pond also 24/7 keeps it clen and clear. thank

rottysaurus: I havnt read your comments so sorry if you have already answered this question but does the 3" drain pipe from the first tub to the second tub go all the way down to the bottom or is it a short pipe?? Is there much maintenance besides blowing it out via the manifold???

Cory GFYS: I am super new to ponds other than having a catfish pond when I was a kid. I was just wondering why a uv light is after then bioballs? Wouldn't it be better at the beginning of the filtration? I was just wondering before I built a bunch of stuff

rghill100: @civicehatch9. I used about 100 lbs in mine about 8" deep. The water must boil large to clean. So if your leaf blower works that's cool. You can also use a 1.5 hP spa blower as well.

rghill100: @Sweets805107. Yes look at my other videos on how to build. There is video on how to clean as well.

needtochilloutmate: Very nice

Da Roc: nice!

Sweets805107: "very simple filtration." ...O.o Tutorial please?

civicekhatch9: thank you.. i will try that

Sonny Vtec: Hi, I am building my koi filtration system now. What do you use to connect the pipe that goes from the sand barrel to the bucket with bio balls? What kind of 2piece connector? and where to buy it? I looked at homedepot and they only had sizes of 1 inch. Also do you keep a rubber washer in between?

rghill100: John Variegated Sweet flag is the other grass. Stays green and in color all year. Thanks.

rghill100: @ barb c. Look at the description it has a link on how to build.

rghill100: @rottusaurus. The pipe goes down about half way into 2nd barrel. And for other maintenance aside from blowing it out. NONE. That's the beauty blow it out and that's it.

Rob McCalley: cool filter. Do you use any type of material to separate the gravel layers and the sand layer? Also what keeps the gravel and sand from mixing when you use the shop vac to clean it? Thanks for the info. That is an awesome filter.

Dawrongguy: nvm found it on the fourm
