Did this video help you?

gabriel leon: I never changed anything. and this video was so clear and easy to follow. I did it myself and it worked thank u so much.

Nathaniel Mardoc: Thank you for a really great tutorial. I was able to perform the swap from 3 prong to 4 prong exactly to your instructions. After finishing the project, I plugged in and turned on the dryer to test. It turned on and was very loud, almost like it was over-working, and then shut off after 5 seconds or so and didn't turn back on. I tried again 20 minutes later and got the same result. Can you think of what would cause this? Did I make a mistake on installation?

ss hog: ok I did everything here, except there is no BONDING STRIP and there already is a GREEN wire grounded. so I grounded the new one to the outside frame, but 2 green wires worry me. can I attach the older one to the WHITE terminal ?

Ryan Mantzel: I watched the heater element videos: tested the upper cut out and thermostat both checked out. What next?

canyonman1963: You are welcome! Glad the video was able to help you get it done, and thanks for the donation!

canyonman1963: I have a video on how to install the 4-prong power cord on GE Dryers, it should be the same for the Hotpoint. Here is a link to the video: youtube.com/watch?v=pfZmHp4wJKE Hope this helps you get it done!

galiche1: Thank you. Your video is really useful!!

canyonman1963: You are Welcome!

canyonman1963: Glad to of been a help to you!

angry0ldman: Great Video helped me out greatly when installing my new one i just got!

canyonman1963: ALSO, make sure the red and black wires from the power cord didn't get a cut on the insulation during install, and could have shorted the wire to the machine. If the motor is bad, it will usually make a loud buzz when trying to start it. Then it will only run until it overheats and shuts off automatically. Once it cools down, it will reset and try to run again till it overheats, etc. So if the wiring and voltage is right, it could be bad motor.

canyonman1963: Wonderful! So glad it helped you out!

Camille Devine: Thank you so much. I was lost until I found this video lol have a great day.

akeelah21: I just moved and my socket to my dryer is a 4 prong and my dryer cord is a 3 prong. I have a 4 prong cord. I have a hot point dryer. So there is no green ground wire only a brass wire strip. So how can i connect my 4 prong wire to my dryer without there being a green ground wire??? By the way; My brass ground strip is in the same place where i would connect the neutral (white) wire. Please help.

Chic Millz: I was 100% lost until I found this video, thanks to you I was able to install my dryer!! Thanks so much!!

canyonman1963: You will need to copy the link into your browser, and add the "w w w" in front of the address, YouTube doesn't allow a complete link to be displayed in the comments sections.....

canyonman1963: Where is the machine green wire that you already had coming from? If it is from the neutral or center terminal of the terminal block, then yes, double it back and attach it to the center terminal of the block. If it comes from anywhere else, leave it attached where it was, it is grounding something and needs to stay that way. It probably goes to the wiring to the neutral term though, and should be attached back to it on 4-wire power cord installations.

Eye Heart Sushi: Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to convert my Maytag dryer from 3-wire to 4-wire. Sent a little PayPal money your way. Again, thank you very much for your excellent tutorial!

canyonman1963: You are welcome! Glad the video was able to help you get it done, and thanks for the donation!

canyonman1963: You are Welcome!

ss hog: i have no idea where it comes from. its from an old machine and i put a new but used one iin , found out i had to switch the cords so it could fit. i did it without knowing that 4 prongs are the way to go now. i will climb back there to see where it came from like you said it may be for somthing else. thanks alot for your help.

canyonman1963: It sounds like the motor is bad, or the wiring is wrong somewhere. 1st, use a volt meter to test for proper voltage. You should get 120 volts from Term L1 to Neutral as well as Term L2 to Neutral, then 240 volts from term L1 to L2. If this is not the results you get, verify the red and black wires go to L1 and L2, and the white wire goes to the middle terminal neutral, and the green wire is grounded to the machine. If all right but voltage reads wrong, the house plug is wired wrong.
