We found a great video to walk you through removing the front axle shafts,
front axle hub bearings, and u-joints from a Dana 30 or Dana 44. This
video shows just how easy it is to do this project on your own with the

DirtyWade1994: Am I going to have to put gear oil in the differential after I pull out the
shaft? Or do I have to pull that to change the u joint any help would be
M. J. Brudenell: I am having trouble getting that plate pried away from the heat shield. I
was using a large flat screw driver. Do you have any advice on how to get
it worked loose?
Chris Wooldridge: I tried mashing it with a punch too bit it was ceased. There is an easier
way. Take those hub bolts and thread them in until the hole is flush with
the tip of the bolt. Then take a 9/16 12pt wrench and cover the bolt. Apply
the hammer a little and viola its out.

uncleben03: Cherokee XJ's were leaf-sprung in the back, not coil sprung like TJ
Wranglers. Cherokee's had Dana 30's up front like the video shows, but had
Dana 35, Chrysler 8.25 and Dana 44's in the rear over the years.

homestead projects . But the DIY jeep stuff hits home for me I have a 2002
Wrangler . I know its a huge ordeal to put together quality videos but I
would really appreciate it if you would do more jeep stuff if you have time

thehashmonkey: reverse torque bolts ford is notorious for them as well
Richard Jefferson: Do the ends of the front axle shafts have anything locking them in place
inside the differential that prevent them from sliding out when the 3 bolts
are removed as shown in the video?
